Kimi Raikkonen: There’s little to say and I am definitely not happy with this result. I was unable to do a time in Q2 when the conditions would still have made it possible and then it was impossible to catch up. On that lap, I went off at Ascari where there was a lot of water on the track, which meant I didn’t make it through to the next session. Now we must try and make the best of this situation which is definitely not ideal.
Starting from the seventh row of the grid could be a bit tricky at the start, because the entry to the first chicane is very tight and it is easy to touch other cars. In the dry, the car is working very well but obviously, if it were to rain, it could give some chances to those who are starting further back like me.
Kimi Raikkonen: This was definitely a tough race for me because the pain I felt in my neck after yesterday’s accident, which was bad enough to make it hard for me to hold my head steady under braking. Having said that, today we were not really quick enough. We knew it would not be an easy weekend, as we had already realized that in last week’s test, with Friday and yesterday confirming it. The car was not bad in the first stint but then we were not strong enough. Hamilton’s overtaking move? I tried to defend my position but he was definitely quicker than me. In the final stages I slowed to save the car for the next race. We were keen to win in front of our fans but we did not manage it. At least I got onto the podium. Now we tackle another fascinating circuit at Spa-Francorchamps where I think that we and our closest rivals will be more evenly matched.
>Kimi Raikkonen: The accident this morning certainly didn’t help for qualifying, also considering the time lost in yesterday afternoon’s free practice. I locked the wheels under braking and the car went right rather than left. At that moment there was not much I could do but accept that I would end up in the barrier. The McLarens were strong in the test and in free practice, so I don’t think there was much I could have done about getting pole position. All the same I think we can get a good result given our pace over a longer distance. It definitely won’t be the first time that we have had the odd difficulty in qualifying and then been very competitive in the race. I will do all I can to give our fans something to cheer about. Luca Baldisserri: This morning we had Kimi going off the track, after he lost control of the car when braking on a bump going into Ascari. We found no signs of a mechanical failure and so we carried on working with Felipe. We fitted the T-car chassis with the engine from the damaged car but of course, the set-up was not perfect and also given the time lost in the last two sessions of free practice, Kimi’s chances in qualifying were definitely compromised.

Check back throughout the afternoon to find out MS’s 2007 plans.
2006 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX RACE REPORT KIMI RAIKKONEN
“I’m happy with my second place here in Monza. All in all this was a good weekend for us, and the team has done a fantastic job. We have improved our starting system, which helped me a lot on the run to the first corner. I was controlling the race until my first pit stop but the fact that Michael was able to stay out for one more lap than me eventually decided the outcome of the race.”

2006 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX QUALIFYING KIMI RAIKKONEN
“A good weekend for us so far. I’m pleased to be on pole position, and it wasn’t even a particularly good lap as I had two big moments in Ascari. I was not here at the test last week, but the team, Pedro and Gary did a fantastic job, and we have a very good tyre from Michelin. The race tomorrow will be tough, but we will certainly give it our best shot. I’m confident that Michelin is well prepared for the race. The car has been working well, and I want to remain at the front and look forward to achieving that.”
2006 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX FRIDAY PRACTICE KIMI RAIKKONEN
“A good start to the weekend. We checked our race set-up and evaluated the Michelin tyres and are very confident about what direction we are going to take. I like this track, and we will get a clearer picture of what is possible tomorrow.”
2006 ITALIAN GRAND PRIX PREVIEW KIMI RAIKKONEN
“Monza is a great track, it is all about speed but not just on the straights. It has some fantastic corners such as Parabolica that are flat out and you really have to push the car. Parabolica is a really important part of the track, because it takes you back out on to the long start and finish straight, and so you have to keep your speed as high as possible through it. The track is also really hard on the cars, with the bumps and the long straights at full throttle. You tend to use the kerbs quite a lot and so have a slightly softer set-up so the car rides well over them. After my retirement from the Turkish race, my back was a bit sore, so we decided that I would rest to get properly fit for this race rather than test, but I am totally fine, there are no problems from the incident and I am looking forward to getting back in the car. It has been feeling really strong recently, so I hope we can have more of a race in Monza than in Istanbul.”
