TEAM McLAREN MERCEDES AND STEINMETZ ADD ICE TO SPARKLING 40TH ANNIVERSARY
Monte Carlo, Wednesday, 24th May 2006: Team McLaren Mercedes and Steinmetz unveiled their latest collaboration earlier today in the build-up to the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix.
Steinmetz has worked in conjunction with Team McLaren Mercedes’ engineers to manufacture a Diamond steering wheel. The Mercedes-Benz star on both Kimi Raikkonen’s and Juan Pablo Montoya’s steering wheels have been emblazoned with round, brilliant cut, white, natural diamonds, expertly cut by Steinmetz, creating a visual impact inside the cockpit never seen before.
To announce the creation of the Diamond steering wheels, Steinmetz commissioned the creation of an exact replica of this year’s Team McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car, made from two tonnes of ice, into which Kimi Raikkonen, the ‘Iceman’, climbed. The ‘Iceman’, in his ice car, with his ‘iced’ steering wheel – a suitable way to announce to the world Steinmetz and Team McLaren Mercedes’ new Formula 1 creation.
JUAN PABLO AND KIMI PHOTO DIARIES FROM THE AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX – 31 March 2006 15:00 JUAN PABLO MONTOYA
After arriving in Melbourne on Monday, my first official engagement was a Mercedes-Benz Australia driving day for some of their AMG customers. The event takes place on Phillip Island, which is 140 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. I left my hotel in the centre of Melbourne shortly at about 09:30 and was transferred to Phillip Island by helicopter, which took off from the roof of the hotel. The other buildings were all a bit too close for my liking!
KIMI RAIKKONEN
The Australian Grand Prix tends to see us drivers attending lots of partner events and for me I got the opportunity to visit the Australian headquarters of Mercedes-Benz.
オーストラリアGPではドライバーがパートナーイベントに参加することが多いように思う。僕もメルセデスベンツのオーストラリア支社のイベントを訪れる機会があった。

“We have had a productive couple of days in Valencia this week, we had some good pace with the car today and I set the fastest time, but testing is very different to being on the race track. The work this week was pretty much the same as at previous tests, focusing on the set-up of the car with my race engineer Mark Slade, alongside some tyre selection with Michelin. Since we first ran the car, the test team has worked so hard on track so that we could put as much mileage on the MP4-21 and push the programme forward much as possible before the first race. I have completed 11 ½ test days in the MP4-21, and covered just over 3250km during these days. I am now looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in Bahrain next week and driving the car in a competitive environment to see where we really are performance wise.”

“I am looking forward to spending Christmas with my family, this is a tradition for me as Christmas is a great time to catch up and spend time with parents and in-laws. This year the perfect present for me would be a jet; this would make my journeys to all the overseas races a lot easier as there would be less waiting around, however I would be happy with clothes, CD’s and DVD’s as well.”

“This year will be my son Sebastian’s first Christmas and to make it extra special we are going to take him to a ski resort in Europe with our family and friends so that he will get to see snow for the first time. Our Christmas is usually fairly traditional, which in Colombia we celebrate on Christmas Eve. We attend church and that is usually followed by a meal and all the children are given their presents then. For me all I will be hoping for is that Team McLaren Mercedes have a great 2006!”
